Naharlagun, Nov 26: The District Child Protection Unit, Papumpare organized an awareness program  "Foster Care and Foster care Leading to Adoption " for  Prospective Adoptive parents at the premises of Child Care Institution run by Oju Welfare Association, Naharlagun on Monday.
The DCPO Smti Jaya Taba while welcoming all briefed about the celebration of the Adoption month.
She informed that every year November  is celebrated as National Adoption month all over the world, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of adoption and also awareness about thousands of children who are waiting for permanent families.
She further stated that the Adoption month also  aims to spread the message of hope, love and opportunities for all children awaiting to find loving homes through Adoption.
“ For a child who has experienced neglect and trauma, adoption/foster care offers them security stability and love,” she added.
Taba also spoke about the launching of 16 days Activism, a program curated to create awareness on elimination of all forms of violence and discrimination against women.
“During the 16 days Activism programme the WCD Department will be organizing various awareness campaign on gender sensitization, women centric schemes, awareness on women legislation, Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita 2023, SHE Box and on child related legislation,” she further added.
Resource person Mandira Neog, Project Coordinator, Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA) threw light and imparted knowledge on the topic. 
Many Adoptive parents shared their experience to the participants and encouraged others to legally adopt children through SAA. 
Adv Taba Zim, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee,  ICC delivered speech on elimination of all forms of violence against women and highlighted the safeguards  provided by the statute.
The program was attended by DCPU official, CWC members and staff, CCI/DHEW/SAA/Shakti Sadan staff and inmates, Prospective Adoptive parents and children from CCI.
