Yupia, Aug 26: The Papum Pare District Administration in collaboration with the Department of Women & Child Development district unit organised an Awareness and Sensitisation Camp on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) on Wednesday.
Circle Officer, Kakoi, Rongni Bagang, attending the programme as the Chief Guest, appreciated the Department of Women & Child Development for conducting awareness programmes on issues concerning the safety, dignity and rights of women. He urged the participants to make the best use of the programme to understand the provisions of the relevant laws and to disseminate the knowledge among others for the larger welfare of society.
Rongni also emphasised the need for government offices, PSUs and private establishments to constitute Internal Committees (ICs) as mandated under the POSH Act, and urged the concerned institutions to take necessary action at the earliest.
Earlier, Jaya Taba, Deputy Director, District ICDS Cell, Yupia, while giving the keynote address highlighted the continuous efforts being undertaken by the Department of Women & Child Development, Papum Pare, to create awareness among the public regarding various laws and Acts relating to the protection and welfare of women and children. She stressed the importance of understanding the provisions of such laws and sharing the information with others to promote a safer and more equitable society.
The technical sessions were later conducted by the resource persons including Likha Asha Nyekam, Advocate and Member, Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), who spoke on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and Tana Chammaro, CDPO, on the provisions of the POSH Act, 2013.
More than 50 participants attended the awareness camp, comprising police personnel, government officers and officials, Gaon Burahs, PRI members and members of the public from the Kimin administrative jurisdiction.
