ITANAGAR, Jul 20:

Former Minister, Atum Welly on Thursday accused general secretary, BJP state Unit, BR Waghe for allegedly cheating him of Rs 15 lakhs, when he was contesting the 2014 election of 12-Pakke Kessang in the name of ‘donation’ for party funds. In this regard, a case of cheating has been filed by Welly against Waghe today at Itanagar Police station.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon, Welly alleged that in the year 2014, when he was contesting the election of 12 Pakke Kesang Assembly, he was directed to meet Waghe to complete few formalities of the party.

“During the meeting, I was asked to make donations towards the party fund to a tune of Rs 30 lakhs. First I denied citing such illegal party donations as the reason for leaving Congress and joining the BJP which has strong discipline and ideology,” said Welly.

However after few discussions, Waghe lowered the rate to 15 lakhs and told that if the amount is not deposited to his account the Ticket will not be issued in Welly’s favour.

“I was confused at the moment as I am new to the party and thought making donation to my own party is a good will gesture,” he said.

Welly further disclosed that the amount was deposited through the current account of his wife from Naharlagun SBI, to Waghe’s personal Vijaya Bank saving account RTGS on 15thMarch 2014.

But the former Minister claims that he was in for a shock when he asked the party in the first week of July if ‘donation’ will be required for the upcoming bypoll.

“State BJP, President, Tapir Gao categorically said that BJP party never asks for donations in election related procedures and it is against party ideology,” Welly said.

The former Minister said that he wrote a complaint letter addressed to Gao to initiate disciplinary action against Waghe. However, he was asked to write to Chief Minister, national BJP, general secretary, Amit Shah and NEDA, Convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma etc about the cheating case.

‘Accordingly I wrote to all BJP chiefs seeking their views and disciplinary action against Waghe. However despite knowing about the illegal conduct, the party is yet to initiate any action against him,’ Welly claims.

“Left with no option and in utter frustration I lodged an FIR against Waghe today,” he said.

Clarifying that he is not against the party, Welly said his fight is against Waghe, who has committed a severe criminal offense that too by breaching his trust.

“If police or the party fails to deliver justice to me, then I will not hesitate to go to court and fight legally as I have foolproof evidence till justice is delivered,” Welly asserted.
