ITANAGAR, Sept 14: In the wake of the recent incident at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), where two doctors were brutally attacked while on duty and cases of alleged medical negligence, a delegation of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today visited the institution.
A delegation led by Finance Secretary Byabang Hapo Dui, along with Asst Education Secretary Lingdum Kame, visited TRIHMS to interact with the administration, medical students, and the injured doctors. The team assessed the ground realities and extended moral support to those affected by the incident, which has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among health workers.
Addressing the media, Dui expressed deep concern over the growing crisis, pointing out the chronic shortage of manpower and essential medical equipment at TRIHMS. “Despite facing severe limitations, doctors and nurses continue to serve tirelessly, often at great personal risk, to ensure that healthcare reaches the people in need,” he remarked.
The AAPSU urged the public to foster mutual respect and understanding with medical professionals, emphasizing that violence against healthcare workers will only compound the crisis. “Attacks on doctors and staff not only threaten individual safety but also jeopardize the delivery of critical healthcare services,” the union warned.
The delegation further urged the state government to take immediate steps to bolster the healthcare infrastructure by increasing manpower and medical equipment. They also recommended strict measures to prevent government doctors from engaging in private practice at private clinics, as such practices divert attention from public health services.
