KHONSA, Sep 12: In a unique effort, Assam Rifles set up a series of medical camps at border villages of Tirap & Longding districts of south Arunachal Pradesh that did not only cater to residents of these districts, but also to residents of remote villages of Myanmar. These medical camps were set up at Noglo, Chop and Kunsa and benefitted approximately 500 unprivileged people.
These camps were set up with an aim to screen all patients, dispense health related information, distribute medicine for common ailments and refer individuals to hospitals for treatment of serious conditions. The camps were set up in close co-ordination with the local Public Health Centers who assisted Assam Rifles by providing doctors and nurses at these camps.
It is a widely known fact that life expectancy is limited in villages because of the significant health issues gripping rural India with diseases that are often contagious, infections and waterborne. Conduct of such camps are community empowerment methods which help keep hospitalizations from diseases at bay while simultaneously revealing the work that has yet to be done in terms of access to basic health care centers and accurate healthcare information, which are top barriers to health in rural areas. Furthermore, Villagers across the Indo Myanmar Border have been neglected for far too long and the people are deprived of even the most basic facilities. This considerate gesture was widely appreciated and much needed, the Assam Rifles said in a statement.
