KHONSA, Oct 21:  In yet another incident of ambush by suspected NSCN (IM) militants, an Assam Rifles jawan who was part of a patrolling team was killed near the Sanliam tri-junction between Khona and Lazu road in Tirap on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 am in the morning when the insurgents opened fire on a joint team of civil police and 6th Assam Rifles personnel who were conducting patrolling after getting inputs about the presence of suspected NSCN (IM) cadres in the area.
Police sources have informed that the security forces have launched a massive search operation to nab the militants who escaped into the dense forest.
The slain AR jawan has been identified as Babu Rao, a resident of Andhra Pradesh who was hit by two bullets in the ensuing gun battle as the security personnel retaliated. “At least 20 NSCN (IM) cadres were involved in the incident and probably they were planning to execute a bigger ambush as suggested by the recovered wire and other suspected items,” added the source. Arunachal Pradesh Police PRO Dr Hemant Tiwari confirmed the report about the ambush and killing of the jawan.
Recently, on October 17 last a team of 6th Assam Rifles neutralized a NSCN (K) cadre between Wakka and Chongkhow villages of Longding district. In another incident on October 4, an AR jawan was martyred while another was injured in an ambush carried out by a group of NSCN (K) and ULFA(I) militants in Changlang district. With PTI inputs
