PASIGHAT, Feb 28: Under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler and seized approximately 30.72 grams of suspected heroin on Thursday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding an individual engaged in the illicit sale of narcotics, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of East Siang Police conducted a swift operation. The accused, Nani Rana Saikia, a resident of Murkong Selek, Jonai, Dhemaji District (Assam), was apprehended in Ruksin town by an ADS team.
A search and seizure operation was conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, Ruksin. As a result, four plastic tobacco containers containing approximately 30.72 grams of suspected heroin were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Accordingly, a case has been registered at Ruksin Police Station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, commended the efforts of the ADS team and reiterated the district police’s firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. He further urged the public to report any such illicit activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital in ensuring a drug-free East Siang. DIPRO
