ITANAGAR, Jul 24: Thousands of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers from across the state under the banner of  All Arunachal Pradesh ASHA & Facilitators Workers Union (AAPASHA & FWU) affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), took to the streets to demand regular and an increase in their honorarium, among several other issues.
President AAPASHA & FWU, Puri Logi, while addressing the media during the protest, highlighted the urgent need for the implementation of  regular  honorarium and release of delayed incentives for ASHA workers and the provision of benefits like EPF/ESI. Many ASHA workers and facilitators claimed they haven't received their meager honorarium as per government norms, leading to financial hardships in their daily lives, he added.
Logi also stressed that ASHA and AFs workers who have completed ANM courses must be given due recognition according to government norms and placement if there is any vacancies. The union is seeking a 50% reservation for ASHA and AFs workers in the contingency MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) whenever vacancies arise in the department.
The inflationary situation in the region has made it increasingly difficult for ASHA workers to sustain themselves on the current incentives. Hence, we are  demanding an increase in the incentives from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 8000 per month, along with additional TA/DA allowances, said General Secretary Tage Nani.
The protests reflect the growing discontent among ASHA workers and facilitators in the state and our determination to secure better pay and benefits for our essential contributions to the healthcare system, she added.
