ITANAGAR, May 21: Promotion of badminton in every nook and corner of the state and encouraging youths in this field right from the grassroots level were some of the topics discussed in the annual general body meeting of the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) held on Saturday evening.

The said meeting which was chaired by ASBA cum state BJP vice president Tame Phassang was among others attended by association secretary cum Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) chairman Bamang Tago, joint secretary Penya Bagra, ace shuttler Laa Talar and representatives of various badminton clubs and associations of the state.

Initiating the proceedings, where Tago presented the administrative report of ASBA, treasurer Karmo Riram put before the house the financial statement of account the association for the year 2015-16.

Tago in his deliberation also focused on the promotion of badminton in accordance with the guidelines of ASBA and Badminton Association of India (BAI)

The calendar events of ASBA for the year 2017 were also unanimously approved by the executive members and accordingly the Lower Dibang Valley District Badminton Association was given the opportunity to host this year’s Chief Minister’s Veteran and Sub-Veteran tournament, subject to the feasibility report submitted by the ASBA observer.

The meet also considered to organize an annual award event titled, “Badminton Starnite” in which ASBA players giving exemplary performances in different categories including coaches, umpires, officials, supporting staff etc would be felicitated.

The day also saw Laa Tukum being felicitated on winning Gold in the U-15 boy’s Sub-junior National Badminton tournament which was conducted in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh last year.

In terms of reshuffling the executive members, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Robin Hibu was unanimously elected as one of the vice presidents of ASBA while 15 others were given different executive posts in the association.
