NAHARLAGUN, Jan 12: Union Ministry of Defence has approved the model of Arunachal Pradesh having the theme ‘East Meets West’ which will participate in the Republic Day Tableaux on January 26 in the national capital.
It is yet another feather in the cap of the state’s Department of Information and Public Relations that its presentation in the eight screening rounds of models for all the twenty eight states, Union Territories and various Public Sector Undertakings has been appreciated by the committee of experts appointed by Ministry of Defence and approved for participation on the auspicious day.
Arunachal’s theme for this year is ‘East Meets West’ which will depict the vibrant cultural heritage of the Wancho community inhabiting the eastern parts of the state along with the famed Chagzam bridge constructed in the western-most district of Tawang by Lama Chagzam Wangpo over the gurgling Tawangchu river near Mukto village more than four hundred years ago. The tableau will present a blend of two great cultural heritages amid a backdrop of the historic bridge.
It needs mentioning that only 16 models out of the presentations of all the twenty eight states, eight UTs and various PSUs have received the final approval. It is noteworthy that Arunachal Pradesh bagged the best presentation trophy in 2017 and again participated in 2019 by winning the second prize in cultural competition. Last year (2020) the state reached the final round but unfortunately could not make it to the selected list due to technical issues related to music.
From the Northeast, apart from Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and Tripura will also showcase their tableaux. DIPRO
