ITANAGAR, Nov 18: In a bid to improve air connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh, Minister for Civil Aviation, Balo Raja, has written to Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan requesting the initiation of daily flight services between Itanagar and New Delhi, along with direct flights to other major metropolitan cities.
Highlighting the challenges faced by passengers, Bali Raja pointed out that travellers to and from Itanagar often endure significant inconveniences due to limited connecting flights. Many are compelled to wait for flights available only the next day or face long, indefinite layovers at stopover airports.
The Donyi Polo Airport Itanagar, serves not only passengers from Arunachal Pradesh but also from neighbouring districts in the upper belt of Assam, amplifying the demand for better connectivity.
In his letter, Minister Raja emphasized the importance of robust air connectivity for the development of the state. He noted that Arunachal Pradesh, still in its early stages of industrialization and investment, relies heavily on efficient transportation networks to drive economic growth and unlock its vast tourism potential.
"Enhanced air connectivity to major cities is indispensable for the overall development of our state. It would also act as a catalyst for tourism and ease travel for residents and visitors alike," the Minister stated.
Minister Raja also expressed appreciation for the Union Civil Aviation Ministry's interventions that led to the resumption of air services under the Regional Connectivity Scheme - Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-UDAN). He urged further support to realize daily flights to the national capital and direct connections to other metro cities, describing such measures as a “boon” for the region.
This proposal, significantly enhance the connectivity and accessibility of Arunachal Pradesh, fostering economic development and improving ease of travel for the state’s residents and neighbouring regions, stated a release.
