ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Eight participants from Arunachal Curling Association (ACA) has left for Jammu & Kashmir to take part in the first ever National Curling Championship 2022, organised by Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Curling Association at Ice skating rink, Gulmarg.
Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Mama Natung flagged off the team at his private residence, Senki View here on Wednesday.
The championship is scheduled to be played from January 7 - 22 next.
Speaking to reporters, Natung said the game is new to the country as well as the state. However, the department as well as the public believe that the participants will return back with glory.
The game is usually played in an area with ice facility. Therefore, to have a play space in the state is only possible in districts like Tawang, Shi Yomi and Dibang Valley, the minister said.
“The game is new to the country, but we believe that with the guidance of Arunachal Pradesh Curling Association (ACA), the team will win national medal for the state,” Natung said, informing that ACA is affiliated to the Curling Federation of India. Meanwhile, ACA Chairman Riba Pangia Dolo  said that the game is feasible to be played in a few districts of the state.

He said the Ice rink can be built, and once we have the facility, the state can host international level Ice games.
He also informed that due to the short time period, the association could not mobilise the requirements due to which the team will be participating in only two categories out of four in the championship.
