ITANAGAR, Jul 14: Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju announced that instruments for extensive weather reading and 3 large doppler radar stations will be installed in the state while chairing a one-day Farmers’ Awareness programme on "Self Reliant Farmers: Empowering farmers through Agrometeorological Advisory Services in Changing Climate” jointly organized by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Association of Agrometeorologists, State Agricultural Department and Centre for Earth Sciences & Himalayan Studies, Department of Science & Technology and KVK Papum Pare here at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre, Itanagar today.
Rijiju said that the installation of the instruments would result in accurate weather forecast in the state which would directly benefit farmers to plan their agricultural activities accordingly for maximizing productivity and minimizing losses. He urged the farmers to increase the agricultural productivity by using scientific application.
He further said that since climate was a very important factor of everyone’s lives and the fast changing climate due to global warming was going to have an impact on every body's lives therefore all needed to change lifestyles and respond to it scientifically. 
While appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rijiju said that it is because of the initiatives of the Modi government through various schemes and programmes that the country and the state in particular has seen improvement in road connectivity, electricity in every village, that many have benefitted from the Direct Beneficiary Transfer system (DBT), successful mid-day meal scheme, etc. He said that the Modi government is thriving towards improvement of living standard of every person in the country.
Earlier Minister Agriculture and Horticulture, Tage Taki informed that the reason for less productivity in the state can be attributed to no tools for assessment of climatic variations adding "The lack of weather related data like rain density, wind velocity, etc results in the failure of designing effective and efficient agricultural structure." He requested the team of Earth Sciences from Delhi to consider the agro climatic zones, climatic variations and the shortcoming in accurate weather forecast in the state and train the farmers accordingly so that they gain maximum benefit from the training.
Tana Hali Tara, Advisor to Minister Agriculture and Horticulture, Bidol Tayeng, Commissioner, Department of Agriculture, Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General Indian Meteorological Department, New Delhi, Dr. K. K. Singh, President Association of Agrometeorologists, Koj Rinyo, Secretary Agriculture, Repo Ronya, Secretary Science and Technology and a huge gathering of farmers of Pakke Kessang and Papum Pare district were also present.
