ITANAGAR, May 11: Arunachal Pradesh Medical Council (APMC), the statutory body which conducts the mandatory registration process of all modern medicine (allopath) doctors in the state, which is an essential criteria for practicing, will observe its 17th Foundation Day on May 12.
Established under the Arunachal Pradesh Medical Council Act, 2004, the APMC besides registering the state’s allopath doctors, hears and decides appeals against professional conduct of practitioners. It was on May 12, 2004, the council came into existence and currently headed by Dr R.D Khrime (DME) as President, Dr Emi Rumi (DFW) as Vice- President and other members. The Council Secretariat is headed by Dr Mika Umpo, Registrar-cum-Secretary of the APMC. It’s worth recalling that registration of doctors in the state through APMC started in July, 2007 and so far as Arunachal Pradesh Medical Council Rules, 2006 are concerned, they underwent amendment in 2009 and 2013 as per need and requirement. The principal act i.e. Arunachal Pradesh Medical Council Act, 2004 was also amended in 2017. APMC had conducted many CMEs on various subjects and a conference for the medical fraternity. CME Guidelines for conducting CME Programme and Accreditation of CME Credit Hours was framed by the Sub Committee (now Academic Committee) of the APMC and was amended from time to time to motivate the state’s doctors to update their knowledge and skills. The council regularly publishes the list of registered doctors in Arunachal Pradesh Gazette (Extraordinary) and sends it to the National Medical Commission (erstwhile Medical Council of India) on quarterly and annual basis.
As of now APMC has given registration to 694 MBBS degree holders (APST- 640; Non- APST 54), 419 Speciality degree holders (APST- 356; Non- APST 62) and 28 Super Speciality degree holders (APST- 8; Non-APST 21). Besides assisting the Medical Education Directorate and State’s Directorate of Health Services on issues forwarded to it for assistance and comments, the APMC also regulates the consultant physicians visiting Arunachal Pradesh by allowing them temporary permission/registration subject to possessing the requisite recognized medical qualification.
The council has constituted various committees to discharge its functions namely Ethics Committee, Academic Committee and Committee (Act & Rules). It has an Internal Complaints Committee also to ensure safety and good working environment of women staff. So far it has settled all the 3 cases it received. APMC PR
