ITANAGAR,  Dec 13: Paragliding pilots from Arunachal displayed excellent performance at the Meghalaya Open Paragliding Accuracy and Asian League Qualification held at Rapleng near Shillong in Meghalaya from December 7-10 last. A hundred paragliding pilots from India, Nepal and Indonesia took part in the competition.
13 Paragliding Pilots (9 Male and 4 female) from Arunachal Pradesh represented India. Though Arunachal Pradesh is a late starter in aero sports, however the paragliding pilots from the State gave a tough fight against the ace pilots from India and abroad in the competition. 
Ms. Tsewang Droma stood second place in the Indian National female Category. She received a cash prize of 500 euro besides the silver medal and the certificate.
Another notable performance was by Ms. Mina Doka who stood at 4 position in the Indian female category. She lost narrowly by just 19 points. 
Another major achievement that Arunachal Pradesh had in the event was launching of Shri Ali Sonam, aged 14 years as the youngest paragliding pilot of India  to take part in an open international paragliding accuracy completion.  He was 50th in the overall ranking in the competition out of 100 pilots.
Other pilots scored good ranking in the competition are Joram David (ranked 32), Kulu Liyak (ranked 39), Jeevan Natung (ranked 43), Ms. Tsewang Droma (ranked 51), Ms. Mina Doka (ranked 58), Bimola Natung (ranked 77), Gayam Dolo (ranked 87), Ms. Minu Keyang (ranked 88) and  Sorang Tanang (ranked 95).
The significant part of the said event is that the score obtained by the paragliding pilots will be counted in the World Paragliding ranking System as the event was recognised by the world aero sports controlling body, viz. Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI).
