ITANAGAR, Mar 15: The Department of Sports, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, launched the ASMITA CITY League today at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA). The league will feature competitions in Judo, Archery, Weightlifting, and Badminton, bringing together athletes from the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) and District Level Khelo India Centres (KIC).
Addressing the participants, Director of Sports Tadar Appa emphasized the significance of ASMITA, which stands for Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action League. He highlighted that the initiative aims to promote grassroots sports development while ensuring gender inclusivity. He praised the achievements of women athletes in the state, particularly those from SLSA who have secured medals at the National Games. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to increasing women's participation in sports, ensuring proper training facilities, and maintaining equal gender representation in all KICs.
The competitions under the ASMITA CITY League will take place at SLSA, with events scheduled for different dates between March 15 and 23. The initiative is expected to strengthen the sporting culture in Arunachal Pradesh by providing young athletes with a platform to showcase their talent while promoting equity and excellence in sports. The Department of Sports aims to continue supporting such initiatives to nurture the next generation of athletes in the state.
Among others, Principal of SLSA Likha Vidha, Sports Officer Nada Apa, and Arunachal Pradesh Judo Association Secretary Rahul Mipi, along with officials from the Department of Sports, KISCE, and SLSA attended the event.
