ITANAGAR, Jun 24: In the wake of the tragic murder of 22-year-old Prabash Doley from Assam, Minister for Home Mama Natung has appealed for peace and restraint, urging the public not to disrupt harmony between the two neighbouring states.
Addressing the media, Natung confirmed that the police acted swiftly and arrested the accused within 24 hours of the crime. “The accused is now in custody, and all relevant sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been invoked. The police are thoroughly investigating the case, and strict legal action will follow,” he said.
He further appealed to the people of Assam and the protesters to place their trust in the justice system. “This is a sensitive time. I request everyone to uphold peace, unity, and the age-old bond between our communities. The law will take its full course, and we will ensure no one is spared if found guilty,” the Minister added.
When questioned about compensation for the victim's family, Natung assured that support will be provided in accordance with established norms and government guidelines.
He also called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the investigation to ensure justice is served without delay.
The murder, which occurred in Chimpu, Itanagar on June 18 last, was allegedly committed by 26-year-old Tai John, reportedly following a dispute over noise caused by construction work. The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Assam, with the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) launching a protest and blocking the National Highway in Jonai, demanding justice for the deceased on June 23 last.
