KATHMANDU, Sep 19:The State Programme Officer, National Programme for Control of Blindness, Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Taba Khanna, was conferred with the ‘Eye Health Hero 2017’ by International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) on September 18 last at Kathmandu for his untiring crusade against blindness in the remotest part of the country and for his visionary leadership as Program manager and surgical services.

Under his leadership, there has been significant and visible improvement in the Eye Care services across the state. The important achievement under his leadership was completion of Situational Analysis of Eye Care Services in the state, accomplishment of Final State Action Plan in 2016, increasing the Cataract Surgery Rate to 3000, declaration of 5 villages as Avoidable Blindness Free and close collaborations with NGOs and International NGOs for delivering quality Eye Care Services in the State.

The Eye Health Heroes initiative of IAPB recognizes and celebrates leaders and frontline staff whose work in the field and engagement with the community makes a real difference in restoring sight.
