ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Expressing resentment over the  delay to produce the High Power Committee report on Tawang Church issue, the Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has resolved to organize a state-wide peaceful protest rally movement on June 18 next.
Speaking to reporters, President ACF, Toko Teki said  that on May 15 last, ACF had served a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to publish the report of the committee on Tawang Church, failing which the forum will organize state-wide peaceful protest rally.
“The state government has failed to address our demand within the provided time period which has led us to hold peaceful protest rally which was unanimously decided among representatives of all denominations of the Christian community of the state in a meeting held on 16 May last”,said Teki.
Staging dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office of all districts on June 18, voicing our demand will be our initial fight. If the state government fails to address our demand even after the mass movement we will take the issue to the Court if needed, stated the ACF President.
Teki appealed to all district units of the forum to disseminate information among the Christian community regarding the mass movement.
He also said that the Christian community has been appealing to the state government for an immediate and peaceful resolution of the Tawang church matter since 2020 through the submission of various representatives to the state government and the chairman of the committee.
As per the grapevine, it is known that the committee has submitted its final report to the state government, but we have not received any such report yet. We hope that the state government will address positively to our demand, he added.
Earlier, ACF had submitted a memorandum claiming that the church was established in 1999 and a request for allotment of land was submitted in 2003 to the state government.
