ITANAGAR, Aug 27:  Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Mari Riba passed away on Sunday following a massive stroke.
IGP Riba was proceeding to Mohanbari, Dibrugarh (Assam) for onward journey to Delhi for medical treatment, and breathed his last on his way after he suffered a stroke, a senior police official said.
Born on March 6, 1965, Riba graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat in 1989. He hailed from Likabali in Lower Siang district.
Condoling the death, Chief Minister Pema Khandu remembered IGP Mari Riba’s contribution towards the state’s policing reforms.
Taking to Twitter, Khandu said, “I am deeply pained by untimely death of IGP Mari Riba, IPS.
Riba's contributions to policing reforms shall always be remembered. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved family. May Lord Buddha provide peace to his soul. Om Shanti.”
Mourning the sudden demise of IGP Riba, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said, he was an honest officer who served the people of Arunachal Pradesh with utmost sincerity and dedication.
His contributions to the State police force will always be remembered.
Home Minister Bamang Felix said in a social media post: “It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of IGP Mari Riba, IPS. A dedicated and exemplary officer, IGP Riba’s contributions to our nation and state’s security were invaluable. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We extend our deepest sympathies and stand together in honoring his legacy.”
The Arunachal Pradesh Police in its Twitter handle wrote: “We are profoundly saddened by the unfortunate demise of IGP Sh Mari Riba, IPS. The enduring contributions made by him in maintenance of law & order, & propagating modern policing reforms will remain indelibly etched in our memory. RIP!” 
East Siang DC, Tayi Taggu in his condolence message on behalf of the people of East Siang, conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. We have lost a sincere, empathetic senior Police officer who worked tirelessly and made a positive impact in society, stated the DC in his message. We feel deeply indebted for his contribution to the people of East Siang and join the people of the State and Nation in offering our deepest condolences.
The Rank and file of East Siang Police led by SP Sumit Kumar Jha has deeply mourned the demise of their senior officer, IGP Central Range, Mari Riba, IPS. The East Siang Police has been guided by his leadership and motivation to perform our best towards the service of the people. He was a courageous Police officer who worked tirelessly for the people of Arunachal Pradesh. His courage and bravery will always continue to inspire us and he shall always be remembered for his welfare measures for the Police personnel.
