ITANAGAR, Sep 24: As part of World Tourism Day, the Department of Tourism organised a cooking competition with the theme 'Aroma of Arunachal' here at State Food Craft Institute (SFCI) near IG Park today.
Altogether, seven participants from various tribes participated and showcased their respective cuisines.
Yupia based Malachi’s Food owner Malachi Tania and Nirjuli based Teri Yajo of Jo’s Kitchen were the judges of the cooking competition.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism Yashaswini B asked the participants to carry forward the art of local cooking and showcase the cuisines to the global world.
She also encouraged for preservation of the rich local culture and tradition of various tribes of the state.
Deputy Director of Tourism, Bengia Manna Sonam said the idea behind organizing the cooking competition was to tell the story of various flavours. Highlighting the huge scope of local cuisines, the deputy director further requested them to get cooking as the avenue for income generation.
SFCI principal SS Kar highlighted the scope of cooking especially the local cuisines and gave brief notes on cooking techniques.
Tourism assistant director Tate Tatak, DTOs Nuyee Talong and Deboti Lowang Takam and host of tourism officials and tour operators attended the daylong programme.
