Yingkiong, Jun 20: In a historic milestone for women’s empowerment in the region, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Upper Siang, Talo Jerang, officially inaugurated the newly constructed office building of the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS), Upper Siang Unit.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Advocate Kani Nada Maling, Central Executive Committee (CEC) member of APWWS, Itanagar; Duhon Tekseng, District Deputy School Education Officer (DDSE), Upper Siang; Kalpana Perme, President of APWWS Upper Siang Unit; Kosiang Pangkam, Secretary of the Unit; along with other executive members and guests.
Significantly, the new office building has been constructed entirely through self-help efforts by the women of Upper Siang district. The office will now serve as an official centre for the unit’s various programs and will help maintain proper records of their activities and initiatives.
During the program, the founder President of APWWS Upper Siang Unit, Yaken Danggen, and founder Secretary, Omiyang Boli, were honoured in recognition for their dedicated service, which played a crucial role in establishing and nurturing the women’s welfare movement in the district.
In her speech, Advocate Kani Nada Maling addressed the issue of polygamy and praised the efforts of the Upper Siang unit for their proactive role in women’s welfare and social reform.
DC Talo Jerang also commended the contributions of APWWS Upper Siang Unit and extended his assurance of full support for their future endeavours.
The event marked a proud moment for the women of Upper Siang, showcasing their collective strength, dedication, and commitment to community service.
