DC inaugurates school amenity
Itanagar, Dec 7: Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) felicitated Dr. Tai Nyori and Dr. Takop Zirdo, two prominent writers of the state who contributed immensely through their literary works.
A team of APLS led by its president Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi felicitated both the writers with a citation and memento each at their respective residences at Naharlagun and Pappu Nallah on Friday as a part of APLS 19th anniversary programme.
Dr. Tai Nyori, who retired as the registrar of Rajiv Gandhi University was born on 1st January 1947 at Pero village in the then Siang District of NEFA. After completing his schooling from Along High School and College Education from St. Anthony College and St. Edmunds College of Shillong, he did his master’s degree in history from Gauhati University. He was the second person from Arunachal Pradesh to obtain a PhD degree. He served as a Lecturer of History in J.N. College Pasighat and Government College (Now D.N. G. College) Itanagar. He also served as Controller of Examination and thereafter as the Registrar of Arunachal University (Now Rajiv Gandhi Central University) Doimukh. Besides contributing to the growth of education in the state, Dr. Tai Nyori embarked in the work of social reforms and for preservation and promotion of indigenous faith and culture from his student days. He became the first president of the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh and was instrumental in fighting against proselytization of local people to align religion.
Dr. Tai Nyori started writing songs, folk tales and Essays in Galo Adi, Assamese, English and in Hindi from his School days. He is the author of the book “The History and Culture of Adis”, Freedom movement in the twilight’, Tribal Patriotism in the North-East Frontier Tracts of India”. Besides he has written many articles which were published in newspapers, magazines and souvenirs etc.
Dr. Takop Zirdo, who is regarded as an untired warrior of protecting and developing Galo Language was born on 23rd April, 1958 at Zirdo Village of the then Siang District is by profession a Pediatrician. He did his schooling at Along Government Higher Secondary School and his MBBS from the Assam Medical College Dibrugarh. He also did his Post Graduation in pediatrics from Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (RIHMS) Imphal and became first pediatric Doctor of Arunachal Pradesh to provide yeoman’s humanity service for saving the precious life of children in the state and elsewhere. Dr. Takop Zirdo has contributed immensely to the promotion of the Galo language as he was instrumental in developing the Galo script (Galo Ennam) as the President of the Galo Language Development Committee (GLDC) under the aegis of the Galo Welfare Society (GWS).
Dr. Takop Zirdo is a poet par excellence who composed his poems in Hindi and Galo language and published his poetry book Mvii- ‘momii which became immensely popular amongst the readers. He also penned down many lyrics in Galo language. He was an active member of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society and served the society as its Vice-President for a term.
