PASIGHAT, Apr 24: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, East Siang unit celebrated World book day on Sunday with a daylong celebration at the JN college campus, Pasighat in a befitting manner.
The meet was opened by a welcome speech by the Vice President, Retired Group Captain Mohonto Panging who welcomed the gathering and stated that books and traditions are equally important for society to grow and spoke at length about the importance of World Book Day.Thereafter the chief guest, Dr. SN Jha, guest of honour Dr. SK Sinha and other dignitaries were facilitated by the President East Siang District Unit(ESDU) PE Angu.
Along with a book release titled 'Gomung Kiruk', which is a pictorial English to Adi dictionary and encyclopaedia by Sekkong Pertin, a multilingual poetry competition in English, Hindi and Adi and an Extempore speech in Adi was organised where altogether 30 participants participated in the various competitions held. 
The program was attended by many prominent personalities like Arak Megu who has published several books, B. Gammeng, Dr. Kaling Dai, Tokong Pertin advisor to APLS, Sri Batem Pertin Executive President, Oson Moyong Convenor APLS East Siang besides several members and guests.
Dr. SN Jha, the chief guest of the day encouraged the young generation to learn and preserve own language/dialect and be proud of it in every sense.
Dr. SK Sinha, the guest of honour, in his speech, while congratulating the team, highlighted on the historical background of the World Book Day which started in England and Ireland in memory of the great poet William Wordsworth. He also described the important aspects of the prominent writers from Arunachal Pradesh right from late Lummer Dai to Padmashree Mamang Dai.
The General Secretary APLS (ESDU) Dr. Ing Perme also spoke on importance of the world Book day along with the other speakers in the audience.
Prizes for the various events were given away by the Chief Guest and Guest of honour to the prize winners.
