ITANAGAR, Mar 4:

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union has strongly appealed the State government to look into the 18-point memorandum submitted earlier and considerably place them in the forthcoming Budget session for the greater welfare of the people and the students’ community in particular. Lamenting that Right to Education Act has not been implemented adequately in the state, the union said that the government needs to take bold initiatives for meeting educational needs and improving its quality.

Citing that distribution of teachers has not been done fairly and systematically, it urged the government to ensure Pupil-Teacher ratio of 1:30 in schools by formulation of policy.

President AAPSU, Hawa Bagang in his statement has appealed to sort out the education and health sector policies holistically.

Earlier, the union had demanded for regular disbursement of SSA/RMSA teachers’ salary to solve economic conditions of the teachers, establishment of CBSE regional sub branch at Itanagar, Timely disbursement of stipend and scholarship for students, implementation of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and provision for high-tech equipment and medicinal facilities in the government hospitals.

It is an undeniable fact that majority of the population of the state solely depends on government schools and hospital especially in the rural areas. However, it is sad to note that such government institutions are in dilapidated conditions; therefore it is the need of the hour to enhance the quality in the education and health sectors. Revamping of all the dilapidated infrastructure of government schools and colleges and hospitals need to be done, such institutions are pivot of human development, Bagang said.

AAPSU was hopeful that the government would wisely improvise the Budget session for people centric and solve maximum of the issues relating to health and education sector. It also urged the government to take a firm stand and take note of the long pending boundary issue and refugee issue (Chakma & Hajong and other illegal immigration) in the state.

AAPSU had welcomed the government’s initiative for establishment of full-fledged State University at Pasighat, However, laments the tardy progress of the construction of the university.

The union has also announced to take democratic movement to stress its demand for the immediate appointment of a regular Governor to the eastern State.
