ITANAGAR, May  20: In a strong condemnation of the recent application of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) against social activists by the state government, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has called for the immediate release of all detainees unconditionally.
Speaking to the media, General Secretary APCC- Gyamar Tana stated that the APUAPA should only be utilized in extraordinary circumstances where there is a severe law and order situation and against individuals whose activities pose a threat to the state.
The state government invoked the APUAPA against social activists who had been vocal about the government's inaction in addressing the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leakage fiasco. This move by the government is unfortunate and uncalled for, and  goes against the principles of democracy and freedom of expression, the Party said.
The APCC further highlighted the state government's inability to comprehensively address the APPSC issue over the past 10 months. The Party criticized the government for resorting to suppressing the voice of the people through what they described as a "dictatorship rule." The APCC further questioned why social activists are being treated as criminals and terrorists. 
"Such move also raises concerns about whom the state government is trying to safeguard in the APPSC fiasco," asserted the General Secretary APCC.
Tana reiterated that the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded immediate withdrawal of the APUAPA against the social activists and the unconditional release of all detainees.
The APCC further called for the early reconstitution of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has already declined the government's plea to conduct the exams. The APCC emphasized that the state government cannot continue to deprive young aspirants of job opportunities for an extended and uncertain period of time.
The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society also appealed to the government  to find a way stating "As a popularly elected  and welfare government, such further extension of the detainees wouldn’t bring any solution to the burning issue. Considering the gravity of the situation, we appeal to the government to release all those who have been detained in order to pave way for a mutually acceptable solution."
