ITANAGAR, Aug 4:  In a significant move to enhance space technology applications in Arunachal Pradesh, the first coordination meeting of the Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre (APSAC) was chaired by  Honchun Nangdam, Secretary (Science & Technology), which was attended by other senior officers of APSAC at the state civil secretariat.
During the meeting, Dr. H. Dutta, Director, APSAC, presented an extensive and enlightening powerpoint presentation, shedding light on the center's current activities, achievements, and its ambitious future plans. APSAC is gearing up to expand its sphere of influence in the field of space technology, with new initiatives including Disaster Management Support, Nowcasting of thunder-storm & lightning, Natural hazards alert, SDSS of earthquakes, landslides, FLEWS, SATCOM, Photogrammetry activities, Space, and atmospheric science areas. The center is also set to focus on Remote sensing, GIS, GPS, and UAV applications.
A momentous milestone for APSAC was achieved when the State cabinet granted approval on July 18 this year,  leading to the center's renaming as APSAC, operating under its own Bye-laws, he added.
Minister of Science & Technology  Honchun Nangdam extended his heartfelt appreciation for the dedication and hard work exhibited in the successful completion of numerous space technology application projects, both at the State and Central government levels. He urged all officers and staff to maintain a proactive and innovative approach in their respective roles. Furthermore, the Minister stressed the importance of expanding Drone applications in remote regions of Arunachal Pradesh to facilitate effective planning for various development activities. He pledged full support for the implementation of Space technology application projects and schemes, aiming to propel the holistic development of the State.
Meanwhile, the Secretary, Science & Technology commended the pivotal role played by APSAC in applying space technology for the betterment of various sectors within the State government. He encouraged the center to further intensify its efforts to gain recognition not only at the State level but also at the National level.
