ANINI, May, 2: In a major breakthrough, Anini Police solved a gruesome murder case involving the death of Sanu Chetry (37), whose body was found with multiple injuries at Shamshan Ghat on April 25 last.
The case began when Amti Jog Maya Rai, the elder sister of the deceased, filed a written FIR on April 26, reporting that her brother had been missing since April 24 last. The following day, his body was discovered with sharp-cut injuries on his head, neck, and fingers, raising suspicions of a brutal murder.
Acting swiftly, Anini Police registered a case under Anini PS Case No. 01/2025, invoking Sections 103(1)/238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation was handed over to SI Yon Yao.
Based on credible intelligence and confidential sources, investigators uncovered a suspected illicit relationship involving the deceased’s wife, Maya Chetry. This revelation led to the arrest of Aiken Erang, a resident of Meka, Roing. He was apprehended from Mihindo village.
During interrogation, both Maya Chetry and Aiken Erang confessed to their involvement in the murder. The alleged extramarital affair is believed to be the motive behind the crime. Police recovered the murder weapon, blood-stained clothes, and other crucial evidence based on their confessions.
Both accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to gather additional evidence and build a watertight case, stated a release by SP, Dibang Valley.
