ITANAGAR, Jul 21:

Strongly condemning the incidence of child molestation by Jt. Commissioner, Tax & Excise, Tani Jongkey, the Anggong Society has demanded immediate arrest of the culprit who is still at large and evading arrest.

In a meeting held here on Thursday, the Society has appreciated the initiatives of the State Commission for the Protection of Child Right and the State Women Commission, on the issue, but also expressed dismay at the failure of authorities in arresting a person who is evading arrest using his power and position.

Though FIR was filed against the culprit on 5th July 2017 in the Women Police Station, Itanagar by the mother of the victim and case has been registered under section 341 and 354 of Indian Penal Code 1860 and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012, the police is yet to make the arrest and the culprit is applying for anticipatory bail through his Legal Counsel.  The Anggong Society asked the police to arrest the culprit within 10 days or else, the members of the society shall hit the street to demand justice.

The society also demanded immediate suspension of the culprit who is absconding and trying to influence the case by sending some of his well placed relatives to the victim’s family for negotiations. Such person does not deserve to hold a responsible position in any government department, it opined.

Anggong Society also appealed the Women Wing of Adi Baane Kebang to take up the matter as the crime is committed against a child from the community.
