ITANAGAR, Oct 20: The Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) - the conglomeration of the 26 major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh has mourned the untimely demise of its former General Secretary of the Galo Welfare Society (GWS), Er. Marcony Potom (54) who passed away on Wednesday.
By virtue of being the General Secretary of the Galo Welfare Society, Late Potom had worked dedicatedly and closely with Central Executive Body members of the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) for social peace and communal harmony amongst the Community Based Organizations (CBOs) of the State. During 2019, the AITF appointed him as the Chairman of the eight members AITF Fact Finding Committee on Namsai-Mabira incident and he led the Fact Finding Committee to Mabira-Namsai which culminated into the peaceful conduct of 'The Namsai Declaration-2021, in witness of the apex CBOs of the entire state. He was a great asset not only for our Galo brethren, but also for the entire state. His untimely demise is a great loss for the community, our entire State and the nation as a whole, the AITF said in a condolence message today
Late Marcony Potom was a gentleman par excellence and a soft spoken and compassionate officer with treasures of wisdom on social, cultural and community issues of our State. The AITF were expecting to engage his service and wisdom in the CBOs forum for the greater interest of the State but his sudden demise has created a vacuum in the confederation of the apex CBOs forum, the message read.
The AITF along with all federating apex CBOs paid floral tributes and solemnly expressed their nostalgic association at the official residence of the deceased officer on Wednesday before his mortal remains was taken to Aalo for his last rites.
