ITANAGAR, Mar 1: Internet services were restored in the state capital on Friday, more than a week after they were suspended in the wake of the growing violence over PRC issue.
The state capital had been in the grip of violence since February 21 over PRC issue following which mobile internet services had been snapped off for more than a week to prevent spreading of provocative messages and videos of the protest on social media.
“The internet and mobile data services in Itanagar Capital Complex may be restored and start with immediate effect,” reads an order issued by the Principal Secretary (Home), GoAP on Friday.
Earlier the internet suspension was lifted on February 24, two days after it was blocked, but immediately again had to be suspended after the situation aggravated which also forced the state government to impose curfew on the same night.
The restoration of mobile internet services after prolonged suspension comes as a relief not only for citizens and business community but especially for students who have been facing untold hardships in filling their online applications and downloading admit cards for various competitive exams.
