PASIGHAT, Sep 16: The continuous land erosion triggered by flooding in the Siang River has severely damaged Wet Rice Cultivation (WRC) fields and other agricultural land at Borguli village under Mebo Sub-Division in East Siang district thereby threatening the livelihoods of several farming families.
Taking serious note of the situation, a team led by Tatling Pertin, ADC (HQ) i/c Dy. Commissioner East Siang District, ADC Mebo, Nancy Yirang,  inspected the affected areas today to assess the extent of the damage.
The affected farmers said that recurring floods and the advancing course of the Siang River have already washed away large tracts of cash-crop plantations, bamboo groves and other fertile agricultural lands since after 2021. The situation has become increasingly alarming as the erosion has now started swallowing the valuable WRC standing Paddy crops which provide food and income to many families in Borguli and nearby villages as this region of the district have been known as one of the Rice Bowls of Arunachal Pradesh. 
The visiting officials took stock of the damages for onward submission of a detailed assessment report to the authorities concerned.
The affected villagers appealed to the state and central governments for immediate intervention, adequate compensation for their losses, and the construction of durable flood-control and erosion-protection structures. They demanded a long-term and sustainable solution before more farmland, standing crops and properties are lost to the Siang River.
