TAWANG, May 21: The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) in an appeal made to the Tawang district administration has reiterated its demand to only permit local taxis to carry tourists for sightseeing in and around the Tawang district.

A meeting in this regard was convened by federation president Dobing Sonam at the circuit house here where commercial vehicle owners from the entire district and units of the federation participated.

The members of the transport federation were of the opinion that if the tourists who visit Tawang use local taxis for sightseeing then, that, in turn would boost the income of locals.

Taking the point further the AAPTF on the occasion passed a resolution that the tourists who reach Tawang on their private or hired vehicles shall have to park the vehicles in the respective hotels they check into and use only the local taxis to move around for local sightseeing. It was also informed that all local vehicles shall ply only under the authority of AAPPTF and none of the passes for Bumla Pass would be accepted until and unless it is authorized by the federation’s unit.

It was also decided that tourists would have to hire a local tourist vehicle for local site seeing and the vehicles (any type) would be provided only from the AAPPTF’s district unit office.

“The drivers who come from outside are not used to the roads here and moreover they have very less or no knowledge of the places. Whereas on the other hand, the locals can guide the tourists properly,” said Sonam.

He further appealed the local MLA and district administration to extend their cooperation to the union in this regard.

Moreover, the federation has also appealed the DC’s office to handover the charge of issuing passes for Bumla to the Tawang unit of AAPPTF and appealed the 763BRTF CO to immediately repair the road from Sela Pass to Jaang.

In terms of the Tawang Motor Vehicle Branch allegedly issuing old number plates to private vehicle, the federation opined that the government should ban such practices at the earliest.

AAPPTF had earlier submitted a representation to the then Tawang DC apprising the latter about various issues being faced by the vehicle owners, tour operators, travel agencies and drivers of the district. It had appealed the administration to initiate the above mentioned step so as to boost the income of locals.
