PASIGHAT, Feb 24: Terming the playing of Carom in the form of gambling and hosting of DJ night parties illegal, the Women Against Social Evils (WASE) here have submitted a petition to Dy. Commissioner, East Siang recently seeking their ban.
Justifying the demand, WASE said that, youths and government employees are indulging in it with a kind of addiction. The trend has spread to even every village of the district which has become a menace today, added President, Omem Ering. While the group said that DJ night parties has resulted in excessive use and sale of IMFLs, prostitution rackets and drug peddling. Many affected parents have approached WASE to check carom gambling and DJ night parties.
Meanwhile, Mirbuk village has voluntarily banned carom gambling by issuing an order through the village elders.
