NAHARLAGUN, Aug 29: The accused in the shocking Naharlagun garage shooting case, Jiten Siyum (35), was arrested today after surrendering before police, bringing an end to a two-day intensive manhunt.
On 27th August, Siyum had allegedly shot 13-year-old Andhreaus Enduwar at M/s Sapna Engineering Garage, Model Village, Naharlagun, before fleeing. The minor, who sustained a bullet injury on the hip, was admitted at TRIHMS and has since been declared stable and discharged.
Following the incident, Naharlagun Police registered a case (NLG/PS/Case No. 115/25 U/S 117(3)/118(2) BNS r/w Sec. 25(1)(B)(a)/27(1) Arms Act) and launched massive raids across ICR and Upper Subansiri with support from Daporijo Police. During the operation, police seized the accused’s Mahindra Xylo (AS-16B-1999), 16 live rounds of ammunition, and a holster.
Jiten Siyum today surrendered, producing the revolver used in the crime, along with five live rounds and one empty cartridge, which were seized. He was formally taken into custody the same day.
Superintendent of Police, ICR, Dr. Nyelam Nega, confirmed the arrest, stating: “Crime has no community — crime is crime. The accused has been arrested, the weapon of offence recovered, and justice will be ensured.”
The arrest marks a major breakthrough, easing tensions in the area and reaffirming the police’s swift response in dealing with heinous crimes, stated a release.
