ITANAGAR / KHONSA, Oct 24: A shocking and tragic chain of events unfolded on October 23 last, involving allegations of abetment to suicide, mental harassment, corruption, sexual exploitation, and public endangerment against two senior government officials in Arunachal Pradesh.
An FIR was registered at Nirjuli Police Station, Papum Pare district, against Talo Potom, IAS (Special Secretary, PWD, New Delhi), and Likwang Lowang (Executive Engineer, RWD, Chiyang Tajo), in connection with the death of 20-year-old Gomchu Yekar, who was found dead in his rented residence at Lekhi Village on the morning of 23rd October last.
According to the FIR, a suicide note recovered from the deceased directly accused the two officers of relentless mental torture, humiliation, coercion, and continuous pressure to participate in corrupt practices, along with sexual exploitation and workplace harassment during his tenure as a contractual MTS (Multi Tasking Staff). The note reportedly held the accused officials directly responsible for driving him to despair.
Following the discovery, family members and relatives of the deceased gathered at Nirjuli Police Station, demanding immediate arrest and a transparent investigation, urging the state government and law enforcement authorities to ensure justice is delivered without delay. The incident has sparked widespread outrage over alleged abuse of power, corruption, and exploitation within the administrative system.
In a grim twist, later on the same day, Likwang Lowang, one of the accused, was found dead by suicide at his residence in Khonsa, amid the ongoing investigation into Gomchu Yekar’s death.
SP Naharlagun, Neelam Nega, confirmed that a case has been registered under Nirjuli PS Case No. 92/25, u/s 108/271/272/3(5) BNS, and authorities are now actively searching for the other accused.
