DC clarifies position, threatens to file defamation suit

Maksam Tayeng

PASIGHAT, May 21:   Reacting to the press statements of the Galo Welfare Society (GWS), the Adi Baane Kebang (Apex) has said that, they are firm on their earlier decision and any move deviating from the Dharmedra Sharma led High Power Committee recommendation and Geo-mapping of ABK already submitted to the state government will be opposed tooth and nail.

While countering GWS General Secretary, Dr. M Loyi’s statements, ABK President, Kangir Jamoh said “Our resolution adopted at Korang was for overall good of the people of East Siang as we don’t want to cede any portion of land to other new district. Galos of Koyu-Korang and other parts of East Siang district have been living with us harmoniously since ages without any differentiation. The desperate attempts of few to include parts of East Siang into proposed Lower Siang District despite strong appeal and objection from ABK shows something fishy from the part of GWS and their sponsors who are interfering and instigating our Galo brethren of Koyu-Korang areas.’

Our resolution of Korang was just an emotional appeal to the Galo brethren of these areas not to move into new district on communal lines which is being blown out of proportion by GWS to achieve their malicious interest, added Kangir Jamoh.

ABK has also said that, DC and SP East Siang are unnecessarily being targeted by GWS just to iron out their sentiments with ABK on LSiang District issue. “DC, Tamiyo Tatak and SP Pranav Tayal have been strongly appealing, convincing and pressuring us not to escalate the situation and have also imposed 133 Cr. P.C and 144 Cr. P.C. to restrict the situation.

When DC Tamiyo Tatak was contacted for his comment over alleged failure (as leveled by GWS) in maintaining peace and tranquillity to facilitate the scheduled visit of Group of Ministers(GoM) to Kora (Korang) village, Tatak clarified that, he has tried and done his best to control the situation. “Since my joining as DC, I have been doing my best and administering the district with utmost sincerity. Right from the incident of clashes between people of Ramle Banggo and Upper Ramle Banggo areas on issue of fishing/hunting, ADC Ruksin/Nari, EAC Koyu, CO Kora/Bilat were directed to take preventive measures where EAC Starlie Jamoh’s leg was fractured and DFO (T)’s official vehicle was also damaged by stone pelting from opposing group”, said Tatak. “I have also taken up many measures like constitution of peace committee to defuse the prevailing tension, mediated between both the parties of RBES and ABK to bring situation under normalcy with the help of MP Ninong Ering & SP Pranav Tayal, proposing a peace meeting of all parties on May 27 next after a consultative meeting with all 4 MLAs of East Siang district,” he added in his defence.

While responding over alleged personal remark on him by M Loyi without any proof, Tatak said that, he is exploring legal option to file a defamation suit against Loyi who despite being a government servant (DVO) has violated the CCS rule by dragging his name unnecessarily. “Loyi has also rudely called me over phone on the L/Siang district issue to which I tolerated as an admin officer. But now I can’t bear it anymore and shall file defamation against him”, said Tatak who was seemingly disturbed over personal remark on him.
