ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has filed a an FIR  against one Drishyamuni Chakma, a resident of Diyun in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, accusing him of cheating, forgery, and falsely claiming Indian citizenship.
The complaint, lodged by AAPSU General Secretary Ritum Tali, alleges that Chakma fraudulently obtained an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) bearing the number UBV2587045, issued by the Election Commission of India, by misrepresenting himself as a permanent resident of Avoipur. This alleged misrepresentation enabled him to register in the electoral roll for the 49-Bordumsa-Diyun (General) Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to reporters at the Press Club on Monday, Tali further added that Drishyamuni used the forged documents to file a nomination for the recently concluded Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections. He argued that Chakma’s actions amount to a breach of law, as he belongs to the Chakma refugee community, which has not yet been granted Indian citizenship.
Citing ongoing cases in the Supreme Court and Gauhati High Court, AAPSU maintained that the Chakma and Hajong communities are classified as refugees in Arunachal Pradesh. It emphasized that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has not approved their citizenship claims, rendering Drishyamuni ineligible to obtain Indian identification documents such as the EPIC, added General Secretary AAPSU.
Further, describing the act as a "serious criminal offense," AAPSU has demanded the immediate arrest of Drishyamuni Chakma. The organization has called for a thorough investigation and strict prosecution under relevant legal provisions.
Meanwhile, AAPSU also questioned the Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) on their recent order to absorb Mishing Community residing in some parts of Namsai district as Adi. Urging not to be involved in such act, Tali cautioned that the organization may take legal procedure.
