ITANAGAR, Jan 17: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (APPSU) today cautioned the Chakma - Hajong community not to play the religious card while also reiterating that they won't be given Residential Proof Certificate (RPC) in the state.
Speaking to the media, Vice President (Pro)–AAPSU Nabam Gandhi said "As per CAA, refugees can get citizenship in the whole of India, but not in Arunachal Pradesh. We have given you a place to stay for the time being, but not for permanent settlement. Moreover, in 1964 the population of Chakma-Hajong was 1488 but has it now grown up to 2 lakh which is much higher than some of the indigenous communities which is another major concern."
AAPSU also warned the Chakma-Hajong community not to play religious cards to gain sympathy for RPC. Referring to the protest carried out by some students organization of Chakma-Hajong community in the national capital, the union said that they have no right to claim RPC as a person born in Arunachal doesn’t count that he or she is an indigenous person by blood.
"We will soon initiate action on the deportation of Chakma-Hajong from the state. We will urge the state government to take immediate action on the issue and if needed will resort to democratic movement," said Nabam Gandhi.
Finance Secretary AAPSU, Byabang Hapu Dui alleged that Chakma –Hajong are misleading the people by playing religious cards. "They are claiming that Buddhist and Hindu communities are in danger in Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh is the most secular state where all religions coexist peacefully. Moreover, our Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister even Speaker of the Legislative Assembly are Buddhist," he said. 
"They are not refugees but illegal immigrants," said Dui while stating that refugees from Tibet are staying in Arunachal happily in their designated areas but Chakma -Hajong have encroached  many lands of indigenous people. They need to be deported from Arunachal Pradesh, he added.
Dui also slammed those supporting the Chakma-Hajong on the RPC issue and said that "they are doing it just for political mileage and publicity."
