ITANAGAR, May 18: Arunachal Against Corruption (AAC) in a representation submitted to Chief Minister Pema Khandu has appealed for the revocation of the detention order issued by the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) district administration and accordingly release of the detainees.
Addressing the media at the press club here today, Spokesperson cum Convenor, AAC   Birendra Tallang said that those arrested and detained by the state police during the 72-hr bandh call are not terrorists or involved in any criminal activities. Moreover, most of them are not aware of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (APUAPA), and hence they should be released immediately, he said.
He said the detention made during the bandh call was purely a preventive measure and requires no arrest. Also, there was no damage to public property nor public was harmed during the three days bandh call.
“The APUAP Act is draconian, and can be seen as a law which is used to harass innocent public and suppress the voice of people against corruption prevailing in the state,” he said.
Further, Tallang claimed that most of the arrested people were unaware of the APUAPA and other laws. Hence, this does not build a reasonable ground to book them under various IPC sections and under the unlawful act, he said.
The organization appealed to the state government to immediately revoke the detention order, release the entire arrested or detained people and bring an amicable solution to the APPSC paper leakage scam.
