Tawang, Oct 27: The 8th Edition of the MTB Tawang Challenge got off to an exciting start today with the Men Elite XCT (Cross Country Time Trial) and Junior Men XCT races showcasing intense competition among riders from across the country.
Convenor of the Arunachal Cycling Association (ACA), Pura Khongkhung, informed that over 35 top riders from various states are participating in this year’s edition, aimed at promoting adventure sports and cycling culture in Arunachal Pradesh’s scenic and challenging mountain terrain.
In the Men Elite (XCT) category, Tsewang Norboo from Ladakh secured the first position with a timing of 43.07.540 minutes, followed by Khushiman Gharti of the Army Adventure Wing (44.24.717 minutes) and Shiven from Haryana (48.48.706 minutes).
In the Junior Men (XCT) category, Kevin Lyngdoh from Meghalaya emerged champion with a timing of 38.36.114 minutes, while fellow state rider Redolent Shadap (48.14.750 minutes) and Lobsang Tsering from Arunachal Pradesh (50.30.648 minutes) took second and third positions respectively.
The event is organised by the Arunachal Cycling Association under the aegis of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), with support from the Department of Youth Affairs.
Among those present were Abhijit Sett, Member of the Athletes Commission, CFI, and Secretary, West Bengal Cycling Association, and E. Bhubaneswar, retired DYSP of Manipur Police and Executive Member, CFI, along with ACA officials.
Now in its eighth edition, the MTB Tawang Challenge has grown into one of Northeast India’s premier mountain biking events, drawing top riders and enthusiasts to the breathtaking high-altitude trails of Tawang.
