Itanagar, Aug 25: The 5th State-Level Inter-School Basketball Tournament, conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Basketball Association, held from August 17-23, concluded at the Donyi Basketball Court, Lower Borum.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Gumnya Karbak, Director, Sports Authority, along with Lobsang Tsering, Education Secretary, APPSU.
The closing ceremony was attended by Takam Pate, Assistant Director, Sports Incharge Education Department and Taying Shakuntala, Vice President, BJP, Arunachal Pradesh.
This year marked a milestone with the participation of 27 schools, 46 teams, and more than 600 student-athletes, making it one of the largest and most competitive school-level basketball tournaments in the state. Adding further prestige, schools from districts including Bana, Thrizino, Palizi, and Aalo also participated, reflecting the growing reach and popularity of basketball across Arunachal Pradesh.
After a week of thrilling matches, defending champions Garden Dew School clinched the senior boys trophy. Alphabet Girls Residential School created history by lifting both the senior and junior girls title. Don Bosco School, Doimukh, won the junior boys title retaining their championship title for the second consecutive year.
The Arunachal Pradesh Basketball Association has appreciated all participating schools, coaches, referees, volunteers, and sponsors for their invaluable support in making the tournament a grand success.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Association emphasized its commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting basketball culture across the state. With the enthusiasm and competitive spirit witnessed this year, the Association looks forward to further expanding the tournament’s reach in the years to come.
