ZIRO, Jun 14: The 55th edition of the Central Dree Football Tournament was kicked off by Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri, Bamin Nime today at the Padi Yubbe Outdoor Stadium in Hapoli.
Addressing the players, the DC called for maintaining sportsmanship spirit throughout the tournament.
"Avenues for sportsmen have tremendously increased in the past decade. With dedication and perseverance you can definitely excel in your chosen sports," he added while exhorting the players to be focused in their games.
He also exhorted the players to stay away from drugs and other psychotropic substances while administering the anti drug pledge to the players.
As part of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to be observed on June 26 next, the Government of India has launched the 'Nasha Mukt Fortnight' from June 12-26.
"During this fortnight special campaigns will be launched to educate the public on issues of drugs and drug abuse, to mobilize political will and resources to address the drug addiction problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity," he said.
The first match was played between the women's teams -- Zamra Football Club and All Hija Sport Association wherein the former won by 1-0.
The 2nd match was played between (men's category) Hari Sport Club and All Hija Sport Club in which the former emerged victorious by 3-0.
All together 12 teams will be competing to win the coveted Central Dree Football tournament championship in both men and women category.
