BORDUMSA, Jun 22: In an incident of man-animal conflict, at least five persons were injured and several domestic animals were killed by a leopard in Kherem Kachari village under Bordumsa circle, Changlang district in two separate incidents. On Wednesday, a person was injured when a leopard attacked him from behind while on his way to his fields nearby a tea garden, however, the person managed to escape from the scene. 
On receiving the information, administrative and forest officials swung into action and reached the spot in an attempt to trap the leopard. Hundreds of villagers also gheraoed the area to assist the team.
While responding to the query, DFO Jairampur Division who was on the spot informed that expert from Assam has been called to trap the animal. "We don’t have a tranquilizer as of now and have submitted a request to the higher authority earlier to provide us one," he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Changlang, Sunny Singh said all measures have been taken to capture the leopard. 
"It’s a matter of human and animal conflict, so I urge the local populace not to roam in the area where the animal has been spotted."
 The deputy commissioner also said that encroachment by the people in the reserve forest areas could be one of the reasons behind such incident. "However, the administration will take proper measures to stop such encroachment," he said. The DC while informing that with proper standard operating procedure, attempts will be made to capture the leopard as soon as possible and it will be released in the Namdapha National Park.
