ITANAGAR, Jan 12: As the 36-hr bandh called by the All Nyishi Youth Association beginning 5 AM of January 13, looms across the Itanagar Capital Region, security measures have been amped up including implementation of Section 3 of Arunachal Pradesh Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act, 2014 to detain illegal bandh callers as preventive measure and suspension of mobile Internet services including wifi from 5 pm of January 12 to 5 pm of January 14, to prevent the occurrence of law and order problems.
More than 50 magistrates have been deployed covering every sector and have been directed to make the immediate arrest of those involved in the illegal bandh call. An executive member of ANYA has been arrested and produced before the DC and detained for Judicial custody for 12 days and efforts are on to arrest the rest of the illegal bandh callers, the administration said.
Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate Capital Itanagar Talo Potom, who had earlier declared the bandh illegal, urged the organization to refrain from enforcing the proposed bandh and directed them to call it off in a press briefing today.
The DC held a series of meetings with the Corporators, ZPMs, SP and his team, all Executive Magistrates deployed and the representatives of Market Welfare Association Itanagar/Naharlagun/Nirjuli/Banderdewa, ACCI, AAPPTF and others.
Stressing that bandh calls are a menace and hamper the growth of the state, Potom sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders including the public to neutralize the bandh call. It causes untold misery and hardship to the suffering patients, students, and business community in particular and the public at large, he added, appealing to the capital residents to go about their normal routine without fear.
While briefing the press, the DC informed that the executive members of ANYA were called to his office on Tuesday and requested to call off the proposed bandh call. However, it was informed later in the evening that ANYA has decided to move forward with the bandh call. Later on, an order under Section 3 of the Arunachal Pradesh Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act, 2014 was issued to the SP to detain the illegal bandh callers as preventive measures.  The DC informed that one of them has already been arrested and produced before the DC and detained for Judicial custody for 12 days.
