ITANAGAR, Jul 28: In all 24 shuttlers from the Papum Pare district have made to the playoffs of the 5th edition of Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Level Badminton Championship-2017 after a daylong trial for the same was conducted at the MLA Cottage badminton stadium here on Friday.
The coveted badminton championship is slated to be played from August 09 to 12 next.
Where Samuel Tamang, Gonveer Gongo, Tage Doko and Hage D Youngbo would be playing for the district in the U-10 boy’s singles category, the lone female player to be selected in the U-10 girl’s singles category is Pakngam Bagra.
Samuel, Gonveer, Hage and Tage would also make their presence felt in the U-10 boys doubles.
In the U-13 category, Pakli Bagra, Jabom Toam and Ajay Kumar have made it to the playoffs in the boy’s event while Gunzan Gongo would play the singles match in the U-10 girl’s category. Pairs of Paku Zirdo and Pakjor Zirdo and Bishake Kocho and Sania Rongrang would represent the Papum Pare district in the U-13 boys and girls doubles respectively.
The U-15 boys category saw Dawa Tsering and Tania Tagam being selected in both the singles and doubles events.
The same was the case in the U-19 boy’s group as David Ngomle and his doubles partner Bikom Boje would play both the singles and doubles matches.
The shuttlers to be selected in the men’s open category from Papum Pare are B Jamja and Gomo Bagra while the men’s doubles would see Arup Buragohain and Proveen Kr Chetry fight it out with the other teams of the state in the tournament.
The pair of Irani Sonowal and Kenpi Karga would represent the district in the women’s doubles. Irani and Jamja would also compete in the mixed doubles event.
The trials today was conducted under the supervision of tournament observer cum Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA), joint secretary, Penya Bagra and national umpire, Rahul Thapa, whereas Papumpare District Badminton Association (PDBA) secretary, Techi Reko, was also present on the occasion to motivate the players.
The games of the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Level Badminton Championship-2017 would be played out at the Raj Bhawan and MLA cottage badminton courts.
