Litem Eshi Ori

Pasighat, Aug 14: National Highway 13, connecting four districts viz; Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang and Lower Dibang Valley, are littered with excess number of speed breakers which make the motorists life miserable.

It has been noticed that from Ruksin to Pasighat within a distance of only 36 kms, which can be covered within a span of 35 to 40 minutes by a motorist, the speed breakers number precisely 23. Now it takes more than an hour to cover this stretch.

It is worth mentioning that this road connects both military stations Sigar and Rayang stationed for international border security but owing to these excess speed breakers, security personnel are also facing a problem as their faster mobility is hampered. This goes for fire brigade and medical emergencies too.

What is more concerning is the fact that there are neither sign boards warning the motorists of speed breakers nor are they painted in yellow stripes as is the norm. Thus it becomes difficult to locate where a speed breaker is, thereby leading to accidents if the driver is not alert.

Meanwhile, the District Administration had convened a meeting on July 23 and constituted a Board for finding out  the necessity for such large number of speed breakers along the NH-13 after complaints lodged by All Bogong Student Union, ABSU (E) and others. However, any action is yet to be taken.
