Itanagar, Aug 30: The Department of Information and Public Relations in association with the Doordarshan Kendra, Itanagar screened two short films namely Vasco Da Gama and Rani Abbakka onat the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre, Itanagar.

Bamang Felix, Home Minister & Minister for Information and Public Relations guided and led the screening.

 “75th year of independence is an occasion to remember unsung heroes  of our country whose names are hidden in the pages of history. We all should draw inspiration from them," Felix said exhorting the people of the state to cherish the memories of the heroic acts of the Indians who sacrificed their lives and comfort for achieving ‘Swaraj'.

The viewers of the movie expressed satisfaction that good informative documentary on the unsung heroes of the nation are being shared with the public. The screening of these two movies instilled a fresh dose of enthusiasm and patriotism in the persons who witnessed these movies.

It is noteworthy that DKCC Auditorium which is a large one with total capacity of 1100 persons was packed for the screening.

Two short films namely Vasco Da Gama and Rani Abbakka were screened in two episodes. The episode Vasco Da Gama threw light on how a Portuguese explorer became the first European to discover sea route to India at Calicut on the Malabar Coast in May 20, 1498 and expanded Portuguese trade of Merchandise ideas and waged a prolonged war with the Indians.

And the episode, Rani Abbakka depicted the valor of a queen of Ullal who repulsed six attacks by the Portuguese for over four decades from 1525 to 1569. For her Bravery she came to be known as Abhaya Rani (The Fearless Queen). She was also one of the earliest Indians to fight the colonial powers and is sometimes regarded as the “First Woman Freedom Fighter of India”.

Among others, Minister Education Taba Tedir, Civil Aviation Minister Nakap Nalo, state  Chief Secretary, Dharmendra, MLAs Kento Rina, Gokar Basar, Kardo Nyikyor, Er. Tonya Soki, Techi Kaso, Mayor IMC Tame Phassang, Deputy Mayor,  Corporators, Zila Parishad Chairpersons, Commissioners, Secretaries,  senior officers, public and students from various government and private schools viewed the film. Also representatives of print and electronic media were present in the screening of the movie.
