Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

While participating in the Regional Conference of NE Zone and Kolkata Region, Union Information and Broadcasting Secretary has given a clarion call to the Information Officers of both Central and State governments to project the Northeast Region to the rest of the country in a more effective and convincing manner. This is a very germane suggestion, since, to the outside eyes, Northeast is still something a ‘far-off land’ and given the current time when there is an ample availability of a wide range of communication tools, it’s really propitious now to efface this blurriness and showcase the region in its true colours.

Any attempt to describe Northeast India within a few lines will be extremely difficult and impractical too. It is really an unexplored land and its natural beauty, diversity, rare and unique wildlife and above all the people and culture have all made it a true paradise. But it is rather unfortunate that the place is still termed as ‘unexplored’ and the finer features which relate to the vibrancy of its culture and economic potentials are often overlooked and the so called pessimism, skepticism and misconceptions have exerted an upper hand most of the time. These negativities which have little elements of truths are sadly at the forefronts of a multitude of preconceived notions carried and kept alive in the mainland part of the country. It’s an unwarranted stumbling block residing in the mental horizon and is more of a greater length than the geographical remoteness, for all practical purposes. It is undeniable that communication bottlenecks have suppressed footfalls in this part since decades and is also true today. But there are perceptible initiatives for an all-round revival, the news of which must also be conveyed to the world in a professional manner. Dissemination of these sets of positive information can always prove to be an effective tool for the reversal of the mindset about Northeast. And since social media is constantly making its presence felt on a revolutionary scale and is ushering fundamental changes in the characters of almost all aspects of human life, it is logical that for a wide and penetrative outreach of information about Northeast, it must be considered as a front ranking choice. It is often reiterated that economic capabilities of this region is vast. This potential now looks further brighter since there is a geographical advantage due to its nearness to East Asia which is a vibrant industrial block in the making, with Arunachal strategically in a most advantageous position.

It would thus be wise if this air of optimism is transmitted beyond the Northeast periphery employing all the existing and evolving channels of communication in a most efficacious manner.
