Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

Especially during examinations or interviews to fill in vacancies in various government departments, one gets to sample the ‘desperation’ among the educated youths. Allegation of corruption and nepotism usually rules the roost and as conscientious fellow citizens one tends to empathise with the sad state of affairs.

It is quite early on but the ‘unemployment crisis’ is jarring. What will happen in the next few years? This issue needs serious brainstorming by people holding the reins.

That said, a corruption-free Arunachal is gimmicky and to be honest corruption cannot be completely ruled out anywhere on this planet. And if we Arunachalese are waiting for it to happen, then the wait will be a very long one. Also there is a need to change our fixation with sarkari naukari only.  As per analysis by a job portal, numbers of new government jobs are decreasing every year. As for Arunachal the situation seems even grimmer.

We are producing educated yet unemployable individuals. With a mediocre education system and no vocational training or skills, the employment crisis will only get acute. The current education system is not up to the level. Government should keep a strict watch on the education system and try to implement new ways to generate skilled labour force. The syllabus taught is of no use to the industries so the education should be as per the current requirements and job avenues.

Government should encourage and develop the agriculture based industries in rural areas so that the rural candidates don’t migrate to the urban areas. More employment should be generated in rural areas for the seasonal unemployment people.

On a practical note, employment in government sector for all is absolutely impossible given the fact that there is limited space for job creation at least now. The only way to curb the growing problem is for the youth to adapt themselves to present situations and bring in necessary attitudinal changes.

Itanagar and the rest of Arunachal is a haven for non-APSTs who have made a life by working in various set ups. When countless migrants find gainful employment here in the state, we need to  question ourselves—where we are going wrong?
